Visual Essay 17 by Sarah Forgie

Australian photographer and art director Sarah Forgie brings a refined, material-driven sensitivity to her latest collaboration with Mud Australia for our 17th Visual Essay piece, exploring the sculptural qualities of our Flared Table Lamp and Pop Lamp.

In this series, I approached the Flared Table Lamp and Pop Lamp as a sculptural object as much as a functional light. I was drawn to its soft geometry, balanced proportions, and the way the ceramic surface gently absorbs and diffuses light.

In this visual essay, Sarah explores the symbiotic relationship between the sculptural silhouette and the functional soul of the Flared Table Lamp and Pop Lamps. Through her lens, these porcelain forms are reimagined—capturing the delicate tension between their structural presence and the utility they offer in the home.

Sarah's images move between disorder and control, holding structure without rigidity. She has an instinct for when to pull back and when to let a composition breathe, drawing on imperfection, negative space, and stillness to elevate the familiar through subtle shifts in light, material, and atmosphere.
