James Gallagher transforms our Brooklyn store

Esteemed artist and friend of Mud Australia, James Gallagher has transformed the windows of our Atlantic Avenue store as part of the annual Atlantic Art Walk.

James Gallagher's work will be on display from May 4 - 17th in our Brooklyn store

James Gallagher uses collage as a means to communicate ideas and ask questions. His work has hung in galleries around the world and he has curated international collage exhibitions in New York City, Berlin, and Cork County, Ireland.

His art has been featured in publications such as Elephant, Juxtapoz, and Kolaj Magazines; The Paris Review, The New York Times and Communication Arts; and was featured in the HBO Docuseries Sex Diaries and Shoppe Object 2024.

He is the co-editor of Gestalten’s Cutting Edges: The Art of Contemporary Collage and was the publisher, editor and creative director of the contemporary art magazine Secret Behavior.

Gallagher earned a BFA from The School of Visual Arts in New York City, where he lives with his wife and three children.

Organized by the Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corp, Atlantic Avenue ArtWalk, a free public art exhibit stretches 1.5-miles through Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill and Downtown Brooklyn in celebration of local artists and merchants who enhance and enrich their communities.

A growing design destination, Atlantic Avenue is home to leading several independent shops with one-of-a-kind tabletop, decor, furnishings and more. Gallagher is one of over one hundred emerging and established Brooklyn artists participating in this year’s event, thanks to the support of local businesses.

“Since opening our Brooklyn retail store on Atlantic Avenue in 2017, we’ve been honored to be part of such a thriving group of local artisans, designers and entrepreneurs who share many of our values – from embracing sustainability and circular design to honoring timeless traditions of craft and great design,” says Shelley Simpson, Creative Director and Founder of Mud Australia. “These connections inspired us to celebrate our creative community this spring and reflect on our future as collective stewards of this beloved neighborhood.”

James has displayed his pieces throughout the Mud Australia showroom, highlighting how he took inspiration from the Mud colour palette in his work.
