Shana tova!

Honey cakes are a symbolic food and gesture that many Jewish families enjoy on Rosh Hashanah, symbolising hope of a ‘sweet’ and prosperous new year.

We asked our friends at SHUK to create this delicious honey cake to celebrate the Jewish new year.

3 large eggs
180g white sugar
300g honey
420g plain flour
225g oil vegetal
225ml water
1 teaspoon cocoa
1.5 teaspoons cinnamon
3 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
Almond flakes

Preheat the oven to 150 degrees celcius.

Grease and line the bottom of a Baker Small.

In a bowl, whisk together eggs, oil, honey, sugar and water. Add flour, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda and cocoa thoroughly mixed together.

Pour the mixture to the mould and sprinkle the almond flakes on the top.

Bake for 1 hour and 20 min.
