Baking At Home With Shelley Simpson

Mud founder Shelley Simpson has a very simple philosophy when it comes to the pieces she creates; “I want things that enhance our lives practically and aesthetically, not make it harder.” This is especially true with Mud’s bakeware range, which looks great and goes straight from the oven, to the table, to the dishwasher.

“When I first started making Mud, I had a lot of things in my house that wasn’t practical, especially serving pieces. I really wanted everything to fit on the table to I could sit down and join everybody rather than running things back and forwards to the kitchen. Plus I wanted everything to go in the dishwasher.”

The range includes bakers, a pie dish, mixers, a mortar & pestle, and Shelley’s favourite, the Flan Dish. “It’s the most elegant of the shapes. I love making desserts, so that piece is so good for so many things”. Shelley recently invited us into her home to cook some of her and her family’s favourite dishes in a variety of Mud bakeware, including an eggplant lasagne in the Baker Medium, a Bakewell tart in the Flan Dish and a decadent self-saucing chocolate pudding in the Pudding Bowl. “I’m fond of the pudding bowl, because pudding is a dessert my kids love. It’s really great to mix something, bake it, take it to the table then stick it in the dishwasher afterward.”
