A Bountiful Thanksgiving with Laura O'Brien

Laura O’Brien – founder of Josephine’s Feast – Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Laura is most grateful for friends, family and good health this Thanksgiving. Laura loves going to the farmers market the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, purchasing a haul of fall vegetables and an organic turkey. There’s often a fight between Laura and her husband over the size of the turkey which results in nothing less than an 18 pound bird! Thanksgiving is celebrated at Laura’s country home in Southampton with an extended family including her daughter’s college friends. One of her favourite parts of the day is the smell of the house as the turkey is roasting and the pop on the first bottle of Beaujolais Nouveau opened for the dinner ahead. Laura’s Thanksgiving palette is built around warm, golden hues with tones Mocha, Cream and Terracotta – she loves to mix the old with the new.

Thanksgiving is a true fall holiday and I swap out my white plates for harvest colours… I find these tones very appealing with a traditional thanksgiving dinner. They set a more casual mood which is the calling card of our day.
