Last week, beneath the wide skies of The Calile rooftop, we gathered for the first chapter of Rooftop Harvest—an event series grounded in the cycles of growth, nourishment and connection. Hosted in partnership with celebrated cook and author Julia Busuttil Nishimura, the evening unfolded as a gentle tribute to the season’s abundance and the joy of sharing food together.
Guests were welcomed onto the rooftop garden with drinks and canapés, served entirely on Mud Australia porcelain.
As the sun set, Julia led a cooking demonstration that felt less like a performance and more like an invitation—to slow down, to appreciate, to participate in the magic of a dish coming to life. Her ingredients were simple, but her reverence for them was profound.
In the Amphitheatre, tables were set with Milk coloured Mud Australia porcelain. The atmosphere was warm and conversational. Mud Australia platters passed between friends and strangers. It was a reminder that food, when prepared and served with care, becomes something far more than sustenance—it becomes a kind of language. One of comfort, heritage, generosity.
At Mud Australia, we’ve always believed in elevating everyday moments. And Rooftop Harvest was just that—a celebration not of spectacle, but of presence.
Set in the heart of Brisbane’s James Street precinct, The Calile Hotel is an architectural sanctuary that blends laid-back luxury with a deep appreciation for design, locality and leisure. You can find more Julia on Instagram, here.
