Platters

Whether smaller in scale or designed with a larger group in mind, our serving pieces are handmade with care and consideration. In addition to presenting food, our platters can also be very helpful to tidy up the messier aspects of our lives.

Carbon neutral since 2020

With an elegant and timeless design aesthetic, Mud Australia thoughtfully creates porcelain homewares that are designed to last.

From our studio in Sydney we hand make every porcelain piece, actively building relationships with the people who buy and love our products across the world.

Sustainability is built into our design DNA. Our products eschew seasonality, complement any interior, and are made to last. All new additions to our range are designed to be useful and complement existing designs. We believe in conscious and responsible consumption, and this starts with good design.

We've always been dedicated to reducing our environmental footprint and our commitment to become carbon neutral was proudly achieved by the end of 2020.

FAQs

Our timeless collection of porcelain platters is designed by Shelley Simpson and handmade in our Sydney studio. Available in 19 shades, our collection is as much about self-expression as it is about functionality.

Regardless of the size of your party, we’ve got your needs covered — from small, square platters for serving butter or condiments, to large serving platters for presenting cheese and charcuterie and large serving trays for roasts for entertaining.

What are Mud Australia platters made from?

Our handmade serving platters are made in our Sydney studio from high-quality porcelain clay sourced directly from Limoges, France.

Are Mud Australia ceramic platters dishwasher and microwave safe?

Our porcelain platters are food safe and can, with some care, be used in the oven, microwave and dishwasher.

In the dishwasher, make sure items are not touching. To avoid scratches on the glaze ideally your porcelain will either be stored in plate racks or use linen/felt between each item.

Sudden changes in temperature (eg. from freezer to oven / from oven to cold bench) is likely to cause thermal shock, which will damage your porcelain. Always put cold items onto wire racking when placing in a hot oven. Always place very hot items onto either wood or cloth.

What is unique about Mud Australia’s ceramic platters?

Mud Australia serving platters are proudly made in Sydney. Our pouring team is trained in-house and use a combination of experience and intuition to cast each piece. The beauty of our pieces can be attributed to the hand-made process and human touch.

Using porcelain clay sourced directly from Limoges, France, our 19 bespoke colours are mixed in-house. The pigment is tinted to the body at slip stage to provide colour depth.

Clear glaze is applied to the interior of each platter, leaving the exterior with a vitrified stone-like surface that becomes smooth with handling.
