At home with Maddy Pease — The Modern Thanksgiving Table

We dropped by the home of LA-based art director Maddy Pease to talk holiday styling, hosting without the stress, and why Mud Australia ceramics are her ultimate Thanksgiving anchor.

In three words, how would you describe your Thanksgiving table vibe?

Simple, comfortable, vibrant.

Why Mud Australia?

The color range and wide selection of products lets me customise my holiday table to my liking. My personal aesthetic blends neutrals and vibrancy so being able to match that to my tablescapes is key. When I walked into the Mud Australia Los Angeles showroom, I was blown away by the range of pieces they made. All perfectly crafted and shipped across the globe.

How do you keep a holiday table from looking over-designed or stuffy?

Less is more! You probably don’t need the placemats, florals and candles… narrow it down to one or two statement items and let the tableware shine.

Whats unique about hosting in LA?

I like to give a long lead time before I host – people are so busy in LA, so I’ve found that giving an early heads up usually results in more people being able to make it.

What’s your single most-used Mud Australia piece on Thanksgiving?

The Fish Platter! Perfect for passed appetisers or a side dish.

Your favorite color palette combination for the holiday?

I love a blend of neutrals and colors… I’m going for Dust, Plum and Orange.

What’s one unexpected item you always put on the table that isn’t food or flowers?

I have this adorable little table broom to dust crumbs off of the table. Sometimes I’ll set it out as decor that has a practical use as well.

Family-style platters or individual plated dishes?

Family-style platters!

What’s your go-to trick for making guests feel relaxed the second they sit down?

Always make a playlist, keep the light low or candle lit, and people will melt right in.

What Mud pieces are you gifting this holiday season?

Espresso cups!
